The Boogaloo has been a gathering place, a watering place, a music hall place, a dancing place, the host of art happenings and literary events, the inspiration for a song or two and a discreet place for a rockstar, an elegant lady or a man of the cloth to have a quiet drink amid the chaos while the crazy world spins. We opened our doors for the first time many years ago and we are glad to say, we are going as strong as ever today. We love the past and everything vintage, just as much as we love everything new that we bring to the bar, but The Boogaloo has the charm of staying timeless …..And that’s the way we like it. Welcome to Boogalooville and we hope we serve you well………………Vaya con Dios. Thank you and Goodnight.
Courtyard Lounges / Function Rooms
The Belle Starr Lounge & Alabama’s
We opened 2 new lounges in spring 2014 . Alabama’s is dedicated to Ms Alabama Worley and all things ‘True Romance’. This is very rock n roll and a must visit for anyone who ever loved a little true romance ! The Belle Starr Lounge could easily be mistaken on entry for stepping on to a paddle steamer but once inside you could easily be in a country pub lounge in Connemara. This is a very cosy electic room and is dedicated to an old wild west outlaw Ms Belle Starr. Both our lounges are available for hire.
Exhibitions at The Boogaloo:
The Boogaloo has a history of being a patron of the arts and regularly hosts art installations and exhibitions by artistes. We are proud to be associated with some wonderful talent from Maggie Cassidy to Gillian O’Brien to Mushroom Man. Presently at the bar we have 3 art installations on show.
THE LAST TEA PARTY: Gillian O’Brien has her installation ”The Last Tea Party’ on show at the back of the courtyard looking into Highgate woods. This is a fabulous piece, a scene depicting a table, deserted chairs and hats, a half eaten banquet amidst some wild animals from badgers to Stags heads, this is a must see installation, especially at night when lit.
BOOGALOO WALL ART: Maggie Cassidy created the wonderful Boogaloo wall art.The scenes depict rock n’roll icons amidst a chaotic dining scene with animals and cars going up hills, flying tequila bottles, snakes and rosaries and the legend ‘Never Play Cards with a man called Doc‘. Maggie is a well known artist and designer and has worked with The Libertines amongst many more. Visit her website here: maggiecassidy.co.uk
MUSHROOM MAN: Christiaan Nagel is Mushroom man, he is the elusive and very popular artist behind 50 mushrooms planted on selected buildings all over London. We are delighted to host one and we don’t even know what Mushroom man looks like, he came under the darkness of night and planted a mushroom over our main door. We think he will be doing a lot more under cover Boogaloo shows.
